aw man, it’s no fun being alone on April Fool’s Day. i’m usually not into holidays, but April Fool’s is always fun. i like all the goofy jokes that people make and the tricks we try to pull on each other : ) like when you’d go to class and the teacher’d be like “oh hey there’s a HUGE TEST today, did you guys study??? oh APRIL FOOLS!” the NPR program i’m listening to right now just did a super-serious fake interview with two fake guests as a joke, but they haven’t said “haha April Fool’s!” yet, and i’m giddy with excitement waiting for them to reveal the joke :D

the only thing i like more than April Fool jokes is when it’s New Year’s Day and people say stuff like “i haven’t seen you since LAST YEAR” or on New Year’s Eve when you say “goodnight, i’ll see you NEXT YEAR” oh i laugh at those jokes every single time.

i just posted a new song called Mountain, so come on over and give it a listen. it’s a conceptual instrumental piece that tells the story of a journey up a mountain. in the first section, you can see the mountain in the distance and you walk toward it, then you climb your way up through the trees and walk along a dirt path. as you get to the top, birds start to sing and you turn your head to look off into the distance at the clear blue sky!

close your eyes and take a trip,

I moved to NYC in the summer of ‘07 with a twinkle in my eye and money in the bank. But now, after nine (nine?!?) months without a job, it’s finally time to break out the ol’ résumé and start looking at job listings.

A large part of the romance of being a musician is, well, not having to work. Or, to be more poetic, being able to “do what you love for a living.” Unfortunately, until my landlord starts accepting clever lyrics and a smile as rent payments, it’s going to be difficult to make ends meet using only my guitar strings. I’m used to living on very little from month-to-month, because I’m a survivalist and don’t live an extravagant life, but sometimes I stretch a little too far and end up trying to gather up enough change to do the laundry and debating whether I can afford to take the subway somewhere. In times like these, ’tis best to pursue gainful employment.

One of the mysteries of the music-makers is what we do when we’re not up on stage, so I want to keep the mystery out of it and take everyone along for the ride. Come behind the scenes… I’m no big-time Artist©, I’m just a regular guy with a dream.

job interviews and church pews,

hey everybody!

i recently bought this little mobile recorder (the Zoom H2) and i’ve been playing with it, trying to record some song ideas. i just posted a fun recording i made tonight called December Night. it’s some old lyrics i had that are kind of about how a winter night feels and what it makes me think of. nothing deep, just a lot of exaggerated imagery ;)

click the image below to listen:

the light breaks into every flavor
christmas bulb colors melting together in the corner of the room
the blues of the moon glowing up from the snow through the window
cast your face in a tv screen glow

every emotion is raw yet hidden,
ready to grooooow

our love for each other hides blushing and giggling behind its hands

if my heart was on leave, it would cling to you tight
if my heart was on leave, it would cling to you tight and speak forgiveness without any questions
